Grand Central Station Turns 100!
Want to see more photos of Grand Central’s Centennial? Visit the Grand Central Terminal location page.
Today, New Yorkers are celebrating the 100th birthday of Grand Central Station in style with notable speakers, exhibits on the station’s history and even a cake replica of the station’s iconic four-faced clock. The Beaux-Arts terminal was completed in 1913 and was declared a city landmark in 1968 after nearly being razed. As many as 750,000 travelers pass through Grand Central each day, with many visiting just to photograph the mural of constellations spanning the ceiling or explore the secret “whispering gallery” with its acoustic arches that amplify soft whispers into shouts.
