If you’re a Non-Muslim and you see a Muslim praying in public, could you please not pass in front of them?

Go behind them, but not in front. 👍

Oh, signal boost! I didn’t know this.

Okay, but also: if you see a Muslim praying in public and they have something in front of them, like a purse or a bag or something like that, you can pass in front of them, but pass in front of that object.

it’s called a sutrah, and it’s meant to act as a physical barrier between the person praying and someone who might happen to pass in front.

Also, if you did this and didn’t know, please don’t beat yourself up over it. Now you know! Muslims aren’t supposed to pass in front of Muslims praying, either, because prayer is communication with God and you don’t want to break that connection.

Spread culture, respect customs, be good people. Simple as that.

I never knew this, but I’m glad I do now.

To anyone not understanding why Lexa's death hit so hard, here is what I have to say:

Homosexuality in today’s society is not something that you can really wish for. When you end up finding out about your own homo/bisexuality, you realize you don’t have a lot to look up to. There are not many characters that are gay on TV, books, movies, etc. And sometimes, when we’re lucky, we get these amazing queer characters! Tara from Buffy, Delphine from Orphan Black, Naomi from Skins, Chloe from Life is Strange, Dana from The L Word, and finally, on one of the most popular TV shows on TV right now, Commander Lexa. These characters help us relate, realize that being gay can be okay, that it’s valid. That even if you’re gay, you can be as powerful as Lexa, Delphine, or any other character. That you can love, and be accepted. For so many queer kids struggling with depression, anxiety or any other kind of mental health issue, these characters are the light at the end of the tunnel. They sometimes become the reason people don’t kill themselves.

But then comes along a sad event. This queer character gets killed off. The queer character does not deserve happiness. And, sadly, it happens way too often. In over 200+ movies about homosexuality, I counted about 25 that end in a happy way. In about 100 queer characters on TV, only a fraction of them end up happy. The Dead Lesbian Trope has been on television for such a long time, and what it teaches young queer girls, is that being queer equals death. Being queer equals not being happy.

When young girls struggling with their sexuality hold on to The 100 because Lexa is such a relevant and important character, they put their hopes, their happiness, their everything into this character, because for the first time, Lexa was a queer character well written, powerful, able to love and be loved, and most of all, a chief. The problem with Lexa’s death is not that she died, it’s about how Jason Rothenberg promised a better future for the queer couple, he bragged about the show being so revolutionnary, while he knew he would pull a Buffy on us. Not only he marketized his show as queer friendly, but he was so great at doing it that everybody watching let their guard down. Wow, Clexa was getting the same treatment as the classic hetero ship! We’re getting slow burn! Flirting, joking, kissing. Finally, the queer ship would be awknowledged and end up happy. Finally we would get something to look up to, and say, queer girls CAN be happy. They CAN have happy stories.

Instead, we got the opposite. As it happened so many times before. Yes, sure, heterosexuals die all the time on TV! But if they die, you can just turn around and start watching another movie, with another straight and happy couple. With Lexa’s death, there is nothing to turn to. On TV right now, there is no other queer couple. We lost the only queer couple we had. We lost the ONLY representation we had. And that hits hard. People living in homophobic homes, with homophobic parents, had The 100 to turn to. Now they don’t. And adding to that, Lexa’s death happened right after her love scene with Clarke. The 100 built this relationship over the span of a year, starting in season 2 with finally happening in season 3, only to rip that away from us. It’s like teasing someone who is hungry with food, only to let them taste it and then take it away and laugh.

I hope this helps some of you understand how hard Lexa’s death hit, and how much it shook a generation of queer people. Jason cut us deep, and we won’t forget this, just as much as we haven’t forgotten Tara, Naomi, Delphine, Dana, and all the other unfortunate queer characters that got killed off. We thought 2016 would be different, only to get proven it’s not any different.
