I’m one of those assholes that never want a show to end like it could be season 22 and there’d be no plot anymore and it’d just be my favorite characters in a nursing home and I’d be like yaaaassssss you eat that oatmeal baby you go I’m so proud of you!!!!!!

“They just see a faggot” | First appears at 01:03

The venom that Laura Jane Grace spits every time she sings this line from “Transgender Dysphoria Blues” gets to me. Hard. It’s so goddam visceral. While seemingly simple, it vividly paints a picture of what is must be like simply walking down the street, or going about your business as a transwoman. Particularly one who has recently come out. It combats the perceived judgement of strangers, and shows the bravery it takes to stand up to dipshits, simply by being who you are.

Grace’s lyrics have long been able to make awkward or angry phrases sound like pop hooks that just shouldn’t exist. And as a gay dude, I love seeing the word ‘faggot’ being used like this. Spat back at enemies, shouted with vitriol. Reclaimed, yet still poisonous. It’s still being sung from the perspective of the other or perhaps from Grace’s own deepest fears, but Grace is the one telling the story this time. She’s taken ownership and wants you to singalong.

Every time I hear the word ‘faggot’ it gets me right in the gut. No matter the context. Here, Grace is able to bring you into her experience with this word, and able to make you feel this word right in your guts too. No matter who are you. This exclamation is bringing people a taste of an experience that they’ll probably never share, but maybe one that they’ll now better understand.

hereisatinypotato:

As someone who is generally pretty quiet, and has been constantly interrupted and talked over my whole life, I just feel the need to express my genuine love for people who actually listen. People who give me time to talk and promt me to continue if someone interrupts me.
I love you.
Please keep that up.
